


Bell quit toward the end of 1973 due to the nature of the direction the band were going and he was swiftly replaced by former Skid Row guitarist Gary Moore. Although a remake of the traditional song "Whiskey in the Jar" provided the band with a hit single it did little to raise the bands profile as an album band. They soon relocated to London and signed with Decca Records and released three albums, Thin Lizzy in 1971, Shades of a Blue Orphanage in 1972 with the following year seeing the release of Vagabonds of the Western World. Gorham remained with Thin Lizzy until the band’s breakup in 1984.Thin Lizzy were formed in Dublin in 1970 when school friends Phil Lynott (bass, vocals) and Brian Downey (drums) teamed up with Belfast born guitarist Eric Bell. Joining the band at a time when the band’s future was in doubt after the departures of original guitarist Eric Bell and Gary Moore. Although not a founding member of Thin Lizzy, he served a continuous membership after passing an audition in 1974. Scotts Gorhan is an American guitarist and songwriter who is one of the “twin lead guitarists” for the Thin Lizzy. He guested on a number of albums recorded by high profile musicians, including a cameo appearance playing the lead guitar solo on “She’s My Baby” from Traveling Wilburys Vol. King, Albert King, Colosseum II, George Harrison, and Greg Lake, as well as having a successful solo career. Moore shared the stage with such blues and rock luminaries as B.B. In a career dating back to the 1960s, Moore played with artists including Phil Lynott and Brian Downey during his teens, leading him to memberships with the Irish bands Skid Row and Thin Lizzy on three separate occasions. Their music reflects a wide range of influences, including country music, psychedelic rock, Irish music and traditional Irish folk music, but is generally classified as hard rock or heavy metal.Īn Irish musician from Belfast, Gary Moore, is most recognized as a blues rock guitarist and singer. Lynott also embarked upon a solo career, published two books of poetry, and after Thin Lizzy disbanded, he assembled and fronted the band Grand Slam, of which he was the leader until it folded. As leader of the band, Lynott’s vocals and bass guitar were a key element in the commercial success of thirteen albums, in addition to a string of hit songs. Phil Lynott is an Irish musician who first came to prominence as a founding member and front man of Thin Lizzy. Mostly, based around guitarists Scott Gorham and John Sykes. After Lynott died, various incarnations of the band emerged over the years culminating in a more stable line-up. All of these tracks are major international hits still playing regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations. Furthermore, they are known for their songs Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back in Town. The band were led throughout their recording career by bassist, songwriter, and singer Phil Lynott. Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band who formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969.
